Modified Bitumen Storage SBM-15
Modified Bitumen Storage SBM-15. SBM-15 is an insulated vessel for storage of polymer modified bitumen (PMB), designed for use at road construction and repair facilities, as well as for asphalt production and asphalt surface repairs, waterproofing, soft roofing and other businesses which require modified bitumen.
The collector tank includes the following components:
- vane agitator with a drive;
- heat exchanger, to maintain the required bitumen temperature;
- emergency overflow line;
- valves for bitumen input and output;
- heating medium inlet and outlet valves;
- sight hatch and service ladders;
- control cabinet which starts and stops the agitator drive, and is equipped with instruments to monitor bitumen temperature, level and emergency bitumen level.

Operation features
The design of the tank with an inverted conical bottom and insulation thickness of at least 200 mm ensures minimal heat loss.
The heat exchanger consists of an internal spiral coil on the bottom and a double external circuit on the side of the tank. The heating oil passes through the system in one direction, including inlet, outlet and valve heating jackets. Thermal oil can be completely drained from the system for transportation.
The shape of the top prevents rain water accumulation The roof is covered with ribbed metal sheets, a guard rail and elevated edges along the perimeter.
The large sight hatch is equipped with turning grate. The top of the tank is equipped with lugs to attach the control cabinet for transportation, an emergency level sensor seat and the agitator drive.
Bitumen level is measured by a membrane pressure sensor, installed near the bottom of the tank. Sensor indications are shown on the control panel. Two temperature sensors are installed in two seats in the sides of the tank; temperature indications are also displayed on the control panel.
The drive is started from the control cabinet. The cabinet has two doors. Control panel with indicators is installed on the internal door. The external door protects the panel from dust and precipitation and is equipped with a sight glass to observe indications without the need to open it. During transportation, the cabinet is attached to the top of the tank; for operation the cabinet is attached to the frame of the tank. Electric cables are placed inside an external cable tray to protect them.
Emergency overflow line prevents hot bitumen spills.
Transportation
Two tanks can be transported by a 20 ton truck with 2.45х2.6х13.6 meter dimensions.
Maintenance
Hot bitumen must be drained before servicing. Internal servicing require extra safety measures by WAH qualified personnel.
